The user has used false Marketplace.tf bot account (https://steamcommunity.com/id/marketbot-source2) to scam the items from Team fortress 2.
The scam procedure went as following:
- The user has contacted me via one of his "friend" to introduce the user.
- After that I was Instructed to contact them with chatting program Discord.
- And then they instructed me to accept the offer from the false bot above
- The offer were some of the items I meant to trade and the "assurance" items such as some of the expensive items in Team fortress, And a background for profile. (steam item)
- After that... He went offline & blocked me. either did his "friend"
Here's the evidence & the items that were scammed
Did you have any significant interaction with either of these users over Steam chat before you began interacting on Discord?
If so, please provide uncropped (whole screen visible)/unedited screenshot proof of your interactions with this user and any other users involved in this scam attempt. If you have access to these from the original chat window, please provide them. Upload them to an image hosting service (imgur, for example) and post the links here.
If you no longer have access to your original chat window with this user, you can instead recover chatlogs here - https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/GetFriendMessagesLog - and when you take screenshots of them, please do so in a web browser rather than Steam client and hover your mouse over the name of the user you are interacting with so that their profile URL displays in the lower left hand corner of the screen (and again, remember not to crop or edit them in any way). Then upload them to an image hosting service (imgur, for example) and post the links here.
Weird, The first imgur link (https://imgur.com/a/tE4gyvN) was supposed to be the steam chat log, And its suddenly gone?
Anyway, I've reuploaded the steam chat log here:
(EDIT : Now the above user's profile page redirects to https://steamcommunity.com/id/viddyofficial088/ when I click their nickname there, with different steamID: )
Please re-take the screenshots you've provided as soon as possible. The custom ID that shows up in your screenshots confirms that you were contacted by an impersonator, rather than the account you actually reported. However, they have changed their custom ID in the days since you took the above screenshots, and their profile can no longer be identified. It is important to re-take at least one screenshot with your cursor hovering over their name, before your chat with them is no longer saved in https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/GetFriendMessagesLog , so that we can identify the correct account that contacted you. Messages are only saved for up to 14 days, so only the last part of your chat will still be recoverable at this point, but that would be enough to at least identify their account. Without this we cannot proceed with your report, so again, please follow up as soon as possible.
Thank you for following up. Since the scam in question took place on Discord, we aren't able to ban/mark for it, as we aren't able to connect that part of your interaction with them to their Steam account. I strongly recommend against conducting any trading business on Discord, as scammers use it to distance themselves from their actions.
However, since there is also proof against the user whose chats you've provided of impersonation with intent to scam, the reported user has been banned from the site and your report has been marked ready for review. Our admin will assess if a tag can be applied as soon as they are available.
